Photographer's Note
Just came from SONPUR FAIR, largest cattle fair in Asia. Which is celebrated in bihar, India. Two trekearth members are along with me, one is PARTHA PAL and another one is SUBRAJIT BASU.These two guys are very gentle and serious photographer…I enjoyed their company very much….
Sonpur internationally famous for the large fair held on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, So far as religious aspect of Sonepur Fair is concerned, special significance is owing to the temple of shree Hariharnath and the site of the battle of Gaj-Grah and rescue of the former by Hari During Kartik Purnima Ganga Snan or ceremonial bathing in the Ganga is held by Hindus to be unusually efficacious. On the day of full moon (Kartik Purnima) immense crowd assembles and take bath. The Mela commences on that day and lasts for more than a fortnight. The Shiva temple, Kali temple and other temples and historical religious monuments are situated here and social and economical activities are at the highest peak during the Mela period. People come here to pay their oblation to the lords .It is the largest fair of its kind in the world, for it is a fair specially for the trade of animals. Cattle, horses, camels and elephants can be seen in large numbers. It attracts a huge number of people, not only from all over Bihar, but also from other parts of India and foreign countries.

Hi Subir,
A fantastic shot, I love the girls expression and your sharp focus so close up on her showing great detail. Her eyes seem to look right into one. The elephant being washed in the background is really interesting too, and balances out the whole image. Wonderful expressive photo.

I like the eye contact of your devotee as well as the cealy defined background. Lots going on as there should be at a mela.
Maybe the background could have been a little better exposed.

Excellent portrait, off centered with ample details in the background. The elephant bathing in the river and the rail bridge are wonderful additions to this portrait study.

Subirda,
Prathom chabita tei to Kanpea deacho. Very good subir da style. The placement of the girl in front and the elephent bathing at background give the essence of sonepur fair. I like the natural tonality of the shot as well. I suppose You may give at least 30-50 no of shots of very good quality. Awating for those.

Hi Subir,
I every time enjoy the way you make us come close to the subject...special talen for that you have! This is to me an elegant portrait, greatly composed with that elephant and the people in the background so that we see the context, so well explained in your note. This childs expression pops out at you in all its reality...there is already maturity there, so many things...Great work!

Really I don't think you've left anything to critique in this photo of yours Subir'da, other than seeing and admiring it for a long time. You've picked up winner eyes, eyes that tell a seperate story of its own, a story which is so sad that we may not want to hear. You've used the light mastefully to accentuate your story. I like this style of yours Subir'da. Other than that, obviously, this photo captures what Sonpur Fair is all about. I see this photo as two stories in one photo and there lies your success. Congratulations.
NB: Thanks a lot for your note. On my part, I can say that I really enjoyed your company and I also learnt many things about photography just being beside you.

S: perhaps a permanent favorite - and I have picked one for a long time. This has all the elements I look for in portraiture - most importantly - environmental detail that is, in itself, a photographical essay.
