Photographer's Note
such a site i have also seen in sepia films!! but to see it right on front of ur eyes is one experience. even climbing up there is quite a trek must say. but i recieved great hospitality from the boarders!!
this was taken in purnia district many years back. but i think this is very much happening even today.
must tell you, its pretty comfortable up there.
many in our country do travel like this. these are the unreserved boarders. but surprisingly they never fell down from that roof. the only problem is if it rains. u cant even hold an umbrella.
this sight often attracts attention of passer byes, as u can see the amused villagers waving at us!!

Great perspective to a scene very unfamiliar to me. It's hard to imagine getting on top let alone sitting there for the entire ride.
Thanks for sharing this photo. I think it's the essence of what TE is all about :)

Wow. I just love these crazy scenes with people sitting on train roofs and hanging onto the back of trucks. I assume the train doesn't go too fast then?
Anyway technically the photo is nothing spectacular but it certainly gives me a glimpse of a part of the world I'd love to visit one day
Thanks for posting

Hi Sabyasachi,
The scene and the sweet colours are very attractive but your picture suffers from quite low quality (much noise). A pity because the photo is original and well realised.
Thanks for the risks you've taken to present us this shot.
Cheers,
Delphine

hi sabyasachi,
after i clicked on the thumbnail and got to see the larger image i thought to myself it looks like a movie scene! now i see you also say that in your note ... amazing documentary shot with sweet "sepia" tones and a great point of view - am glad everybody felt confortable up there.
i think the cables, the colors, the noise are all perfectly suited here: just as they should be ... this is such a real life shot!
very well seen - thank you!

Hello sabyasachi,

Hello Sabyasachi,
Great perspective of all these persons risking their lifes travelling on top of the train.
It's strange but a daily life scene of your country because it's not the first time I see it.
I wonder what you were doing on the top yourself:)
Cheers.

Hi Sabya,
I salute your courageous effort to take this snap. The ambience around is very nice. The smoke of Diesel engiene increases the beauty of your picture

I travelled on top of some trucks in India, but never had a chance to get this kind of POV - excellent post, and great idea !
Colours, atmosphere are lovely and the details of the photo are very interesting.
I hope that you won't mind if I add it to my theme...
TFS,
Cath.
