Photographer's Note
Main tower of High Court, Kolkata.
This is the oldest High Court in India (1872 AD). The site was once occupied by the Supreme Court of India.
Famous architect Walter L.B. Granville, who designed the General Post Office of Kolkata, was the chief architect of this building. Though the design was influenced by that of Town Hall, Hamburg (Hamburg Rathaus) and Cloth Hall of Belgium, the Kolkata High Court building is a dramatically original composition which serves as one of Kolkata’s most impressive pieces of architecture.
The globe-like structure is not a part of this building, but a part of New Secretariat, a building behind the High Court.
The complex is huge but the photo does not show that.
I liked the central tower with a natural framing from this side and…
Is it not a good idea to keep away from a court of law?
For a closer view of the top of the tower, please check Workshop.

Hello Alekhya,
We are neighbors today!!
Great view of the main tower of High court.
Nice POV and composition to keep greens on both side of the frame...it makes eye catching contrast with the red and yellow of the building.
I just wish there was a strong breeze and the Indian tricolor on top would be proudly flying..but that's just a wish :-)
Very good research to get this informative note for us.
Excellent presentation. Well done.
Regards,
Subho

Hello Alekhya,
This is an interesting and quite attractive building in an unusual style. There are lots of fine details and the colours are very good, of the building as such and the photo generally. It's a very symmetric composition where the trees cover the sky nicely without disturbing the view of the tower. Three small red details in the street add some spice to the foreground.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Alekhya
This sure is an impressive piece of design, and I love how you framed this so perfectly between the trees. It gives the effect that the building is peering out at us, perhaps performing its judicial responsibilities and watching out for n'er do wells! The colors of the building are very striking too.
Great to learn of this fine building, thanks for your share and of course informative note!
All the best

Hello, Alekhya,
Fine shot! Excellent choice of the point of view, good idea to make this branch frame.
Your photo reminds me my trip to Mumbai and the British architect heritage there.

Hello Alekhya,
Do not worry, I don't think ordinary citizens are involved with the higher courts. I agree that this is well framed naturally. The portion of the building you show is spectacular. The maroon/beige edifice surrounded by green trees looks very handsome, I wonder if those are the original colors that the architect envisioned.

Namaste Alekhya
Great architectural shot, a straight on shooting angle really makes this fine building stands out in traditional red & yellow. The range of tones seem a lot cleaner that just jumped out with tree branches providing excellent natural framing. Whatever you did it is a pleasing looking shot, I love the clarity too, Excellent shot, tfs
Best regards
