Photographer's Note

Malda is the major of the Malda district in West Bengal and called the gateway to north Bengal and the Himalayas. Rivers Ganges and Mahananda run through the district and causes erosion to their banks leading to large diplacement of population. The erosion is a result of the rivers changing course because of the setting up of a huge barrage on the Ganges at Farakka. Mahananda runs through the town and to prevent flooding a long enbankment runs along the river. On and above the enbankment people have built shacks under the shade of trees. These shacks will soon be demolished to make way for a highway as soon as the bridge being built across the river is finished. The inhabitants will become homeless again.

Cropped, sharpened and colours revived.
