Photographer's Note

Chandratal lies in the Lahaul-Spiti region which being in the rain shadow area is a cold desert in the Himalayas. You hardly see any greenery on ur trek to the Lake of the Moon. What you see is a totally barren landscape adorned with some snow clad peaks and River Chandra flowing parallel to the route. But this landscape has an aura of its own as you can see in the photo.

That trail leads you to Chandratal, walking on which you occasionally bump into a herd of Sheep followed by a shepherd or some nasty Yaks. That beautiful snow ladden peak on the extreme right is "Sail" which is almost 21000 feet(6500 mts) high. You can also see a couple of trekkers on the green patch near the bottom.
While trekking to Chandratal, it is difficult not to get mesmerised by this beauty of Lahaul-Spiti.

To reach this place, you have to cross Rohtang La coming from Manali and then proceed left towards Kunzum La. After passing through Chhatru n Chhota Dara, you reach Batal, which is around 150 Kms from Manali n 15 Kms from Chandratal. Although a couple of those 15 Kms is motorable, it is better to start trekking from Batal itself. So trek 15 Kms, lo and behold, you have reached one of the five most beautiful lakes in Himalayas.

Removed the noise and cleaned up the image.
