Photographer's Note

Dharamshala is the official residence of the Dalai-Lama and one of the official settlements of Tibetan refugees in India. This hill station (1768 m at McLeodganj), even though disturbingly touristic, is saturated with the sprit of highlands. In fact, the presence of Tibetan culture is felt so strong that you cannot believe in still being in India: differently looking and dressed people, different food, different religion.

While our visit an opera festival was going on there. It appeared to be a great opportunity to participate in a authentic community gathering and not an arrangement for any touristic purposes. We were roaming around, watching the performance, meeting locals so to grasp the local culture. But what is more – I was continuously observing… Could not take my eyes off this lady restlessly taking care of her kid and yet watching the opera.
