Photographer's Note

On the way to Kinnaur from Shimla lies Taranda Dhaang, a masterpiece of road engineering. Carved into solid rock in a half tunnel for about 5 kms the road snakes above the roaring Sutlej river far far below.

Nepali and Himachali labourers toiled for years to make the initial trace. Hanging from above, on rope held platforms, they chiselled away, unmindful of the drop beneath. Many dozens lost their lives. This narrow ribbon of road does duty on a daily basis for hundreds of vehicles entering Kinnaur - a tribute to their sacrifice.

Visit Himachal ---do "drop in" !!!:-)
