Photographer's Note

This is Samanar Malai ( Hillock of Jain) near Madurai in which Jain monks lived 1500 years ago. The monks lived inside this narrow cave. You can find beds carved in rocks. Note the chipped line-this was meant to reduce the flow of rain water inside the cave. The fence has been recently erected to protect the tourists from falling over the "sheer drop" on the other side of the hillock. Jain monks always preferred hard rock hills instead of green hills. The rock, the green plains and the sky gave a lovely contrast. Adjusted with photoshop.
