Photographer's Note
“WOMEN POWER”,What does that mean? Women who openly display their power, knowledge, and skill, receiving public recognition and honor. But also females who manage to wield power in societies that try to limit it or decree female submission; where their leadership is stigmatized and their creativity disdained.
But if you are a woman and living in a rural area of india, you are likely to be poorer than a man, more vulnerable, own no land, be less educated and in poorer health. And you are unlikely to live as long.
India has a low sex ratio, the chief reason being that many women die before reaching adulthood. It is therefore suggested by many experts, that the low sex ratio in India can be attributed to female infanticides and sex-selective abortions.
All medical tests that can be used to determine the sex of the child have been banned in India, due to incidents of these tests being used to get rid of unwanted female children before birth. Female infanticide (killing of girl infants) is still prevalent in some rural areas. The abuse of the dowry tradition has been one of the main reasons for sex-selective abortions and female infanticides in India.

Awesome shot Subirda,
The eyes are shot absolutely wonderfully. Red signifies power, and this shot just portrays power amazingly.

Hi Subir
Till the dowry will exists these 'problems' concerning the women, so well described in your note, will for sure, remain in India. I know millions of them are missing!!!
As you said it is not allowed to determine the sex of the child, but I guess, in some area with bakshish everything is possible! You note and image are really powerful and thanks of you!
Cheers

The glare in those eeys are piercing and intense and surely signify raw power. The composition is lovely and very thoughtful. The pov is superb. I like the natural play of colours and the way the shot has been prsented

Strong, very strong work Subir! Wonderful idea and an even powerful execution of it. The look is really powerful and the vermillion says it all! Nice clarity. The skin tone is awesome. Where and when did you take this? During sindur-khela?

Hi Subirda,
I really could not stare at those eyes for long!!They were so powerful!!Incredible shot !! But I feel its a little diproportionate, the right eye seems to have a bit more space to its right than the left eye to its left, which is dark.Would a crop help??
But ,one has to say that its a very powerful portrait!!
Regards,
Sagarneel.
