Photographer's Note
i was missing my usual dark ,gloomy black and white shots, so im uploading this one for a change. the quality is not very good. as i just scanned it right now from a black and white print. the print looks decent, but there was too much dust, i tried to do my best was too lazy, so hope it's ok enough for you to make out.
this was taken right before i clicked "tears"
i was with these kids in the slum. there was a red filter on the lens because of which the wall behind is quite dark and the faces are pale. these kids seemed to capture the essence of life

If not for the fact that I can't see the kid's eyes (2nd from right) I would be just fine with the contrast on this (I assume the original is better). Moody, but also with some joy. The close crop and the diff expressions here are great. Well done.

Hi sohrab, welcome back to your images of your homeland. As usual moody, mysterious and dark.

i'd say its a bit too dark but on the other hand the high contrast has a strong effect. i like it. good work.

Hi Sohrab
Superb portrait of group! the photograph is dark but the joy manages to spout out with the laughter of the boy. I like much the zones of light which work the faces.
Congrats

I like this one a lot it's full of life and emotions that only a Good B&W can deliver, the softness is great and the intimacy with your subjects is superb.

I was already missing these dark B&W photographs of yours. Just the fact that their eyes almost disappear in the surrounding darkness. It touched me so much in the past, and mainly in the two photographs that I put among my favourites here. Just to be able to remember all the time. And never forget. You are one of the photographs in this site that makes me feel far beyond simple admiration for the technique.

yep, you know i missed these too! This is really beautiful, and the overall darkness is very well managed. I'm infact trying out your technique withleaving the subject in a doorway to get this kind of darkness, but I won't know if it works for a while.
really great capture Sohrab, a favorite!

Hi sohrab
The life in this picture is in the contrasts. The black and the white, the faces of the chidren, their ages.
Very beautiful

Hi Sohrab,
Good to see youre back to india and its "Indian-ness". The scan looks fine and with the heat and humidity laziness is forgiven..!
The only wonder is the face to the right looks too healthy for a slum shot..:-)
Agar woh nahi hota to yeh gazab ka "poverty mein khushi" shot hota!!!

The quality of your photos continues to amaze me. You really should get a portfolio together and show it to someone in the photogrpahy profession - whether a practicing photogrpaher or a photo-editor at one of the big Indian magazines. You could also see if you can contact that American photogrpaher based in eastern India, Marcus Leatherdale - you've reached a point where you need to go beyond what an internet site like this can provide.

How you got all these emotions together in one photograph is beyond me. Excellent use of b/w as this enhances the whole tone of the picture. I would have cropped the darkness from the left side to frame the picture a little more.

ok, said several times before me but I will also add that I missed the Sohrabi pictures:)...as you think (and Vijay mentioned), right plump kid is really out of place a bit (I do not think like this because he is plump but because he is very small yet..breaks the feeling of "friends" or "family" in the picture..) but I liked it very much overall..
take care..have good grades..
shoot more bws..I will be proud to know your amateur days when you become very famous :))

Very good candid shot of these boys. I rather like the darkness of the image. Good use of the red filter.

Impressive B&W photo from these children. The monochrome tones are working well and fits perfect to the theme! Great job indeed!

mostly, your photography is very much give or take. some images are amazing, some i don't see the purpose of.
of all the photos i've looked at, this is definitely your best. i like the ghostly and gaunt faces. the use of negative space and shadow is very effective.
what attracted me most to this image is the haunted looks about their eyes and the juxtaposition of the happy and sad features.
congratulations on a very good composition.
