Photographer's Note

One that is difficult to ignore on my late afternoon photo routine when spotted this artfully painted traditional outrigger fishing canoe left high & dry at a secluded spot on a beach in Situbondo, East Java. I was drawn to this subject, a strong angled sun light shining obligingly at the correct angle to emphasise its vividness and splashy colours, made me think it was worth a shot.

It's time to have a good break till nightfall when she would be out again, to repeat the cycle, venturing to harvest the pitch darkness of Java Sea.

Setting: 16 mm, 1/80 sec, F13, ISO Raw 100, 1648 hrs & polarised

A great close-up photo of this canoe, its shapes look great and also its bright paintings look wonderful in this bright sunlight. They make the canoe stand out so well from the dark brown colours of the beach and the blue sky.

How to resist? Good level to take the portrait of this outrigger well lit by the lateral sun. Gorgeous saturated paintings well enhanced by the use of the polariser to darken the blue sky and increase the color contrast.

I rember this kind of boats from Bali.
From your well choosen POV you created a fantastic composition.The nice painted boat contrast so well with the dark sand and the sky. I like the long white diagonal.
