~ under the clouds ~, a photo from Sulawesi Selatan, Sulawesi

Photographer's Note

I could not resist the huge clouds even though the late afternoon light was quite bleak, rather flat and diffused, a situation on which I always try to avoid for landscape photography. Taken at small pretty village in Batutumonga with its stunning scenery of rice terraces and scattered traditional houses; a mountainous region in northern part of Tanatoraja which is also known as "land of death rituals" and a producer of the famous Toraja coffee - amongst the best arabica in the world.

Used GND filter for more balance lighting and exposed on the foreground to hold the sky area.

Setting: 26 mm, 1/80 sec, F16, ISO Raw 200, 1630 hrs plus GND filter

The vivid greenery offered by the paddy fields make a splendid contrast with the threatening sky. Excellent idea to give full rein to those magnificent gathering clouds. Very good light management assures superb colours and clarity. Wonderful sense of depth as we gaze toward the distant mountains.

A gorgeous landscape picture ! from the fresh green rice terraced fields in the Fg towards the dark mountains in the Bg , passing by the little hamlet as an excellent focal point , and above all a fabulous cloudy sky .

Cette composition devrait figurer dans des magazines au papier glacé tant la prise de vue est superbe.
Il faut dire que le ciel participe beaucoup ŕ l'intéręt de cette réalisation, mais l'ensemble est remarquable.

I've never been to Sulawesi despite 4 trips to Indonesia. Well composed using the rule of thirds with excellent sharpness and the verdant rice paddies in full sunlight literally glow. Tfs!

The pp work you've done, mainly on the sky, but also on the rice terraces remains for me just on the right side of overdone! It's certainly achieved a suitably dramatic effect, and completely removed any worries you may have had over the flat light.

Impressive landscape shot, Abmdsudi. Saturation and contrast seem almost too much, pushing it all the way. The local architecture stands out great (those roofs!).
