Photographer's Note
These are the tombstones that have been used by the Bataks on Samosir Island, Sumatra for ages.
I uploaded this picture inhonour of all those people who lost their lives, but also in honour of those people who lost their beloved, and their homes, and their income.
I would like to look upon it as a symbol for those who will be namelessly buried in a mass grave.
Samosir island is in the north of Sumatra, and more in the middle in the East-west direction. It is in the middle of Lake Toba. They will not have noticed the Tsunami, as it is about a 150 kilometers from the coast, but they must have been hit by the eartquake. It took place immediately to the west of Samosir Island.
I do not expect you to rate this picture, as it is in honour of all those people in the SE Asia region, and the African coast.

Hi Rinie,
I suppose as you describe it that Samosir should be close to Nias or the Mentawai's (or perhaps northerner Weh?).
Unfrtunetaly I think these were the islands nearest to the epicentre of the earthquake and therefore should have been badly hit twice by the shock itself and the tidal wave... We usually hear little about life in these islands, thanks for posting this image.

Bonjour Rinie.
It's a beautiful image and a very good way to honour the people who are victims of this huge desaster. I've never travelled there but many of our friends have their origines in Indonesia, so we know how sad they must feel now. Our thoughts are for family and friends of the people who have desappeared.

Hi Rinie, my best wishes for a happier new year to you.
I find this photo is a great mark of sympathy and respect to all the casualties of this tragedy, the expression of the person represented on this tombstone is very strong.
My smiley is dedicated through your photo to all persons affected by this tragedy who, in addition to our sympathy and respect, also deserve our support.

I like the application of light to your photo. Do you have a picture taken of Angkor Wat, Cambodia in same light condition?

Nice compo ! Unfortunately a bit too dark in the background, but the light reflection on the statue looks great !
