Photographer's Note

A simple shot from my walk out which brings back memories of sun, sand & seawater sliding through the toes on a wander along the seafront at Wonokaka fishing village, South Sumba island.

Saw this lone figure casting a fishing net early in the morning full of enthusiasm it seemed. It was pretty wild on the beach with big waves being whipped up by winds at high tide and the effects can be seen in the foam. The net is circular with small weights around its edge and it is cast by hand in such a way that it spreads out on the water and sinks. The fish are caught as the fisherman is hauling the net back in but fishing this way is very effective for catching small fish.
