Photographer's Note
A picture I took in Bali. She was one of the old ladies vending in the market at Ubud. What drew me in to her was her colours and beautiful lined face. She tells the stories of her life through the lines in her face.
I am posting this picture as a sort of an appeal to everyone who happen to read this. I am a finalist at DC Magazine Photographer of the Year and I sent this picture as my final brief. Please vote for me. If you're not a member, please register first...it is for free.

Hi Manuel,
splendid portrait with the gilded reflections, but I will have seen it well in black and white.
I thus tested a workshop and I benefitted from it to make a realignment with the square format.
Good luck for the contest.

Hola, Manny. Best of luck on your contest.
After seeing so much of your work winning at the DIC, it is almost surreal to me to see a non-fashion shot. Though still true to your nature of looking for the soul of the subject. Count on my vote.
Cheers,
Enrique

Hello Manny. A striking portrait in your trademark style, with a gentle light enhancing all the fascinating wrinkles on the old lady's face. Congratulations on making it to the finals at the magazine contest, and I wish you success.
However, I would also like to take the opportunity to say the following, and I hope it will not offend you. Since Nov 1, 2005 (so basically within the last year), you have posted 66 photos on TE and written 12 (!) critiques. That's an average of a staggering 1 critique per month. Yet here you are, uploading this photo and asking people to go to another website and vote for you, even go through a registering process to do so. Now it may just be me but I find that a rather selfish behavior.

What a look! What a look!
If with that look you aren't able to win something, then the world is sitting atop its head. Vibrant colours and powerful Life. Excellent shot!
I wish you luck and much more for the contest!
TFS!

Manny, whilst this is a shot that, taken by anybody else, would be the best in their gallery (mine definitely included), I feel that this is one of your weaker shots. For one it lacks your trademark supernatural sharpness; also the colours don't seem as rich and saturated as those you normally achieve.
And then, I don't feel that you've connected with this subject in the way that you have so often done in the past. To me it looks like you took a single shot and then you moved on; the sort of shot I would take whereas I've always been impressed by the deeper connection to your subjects that you usually manage to get.

Well, a few harsh critiques here I see. It's interesting. I don't see any rules saying anything about the number of critiques a member has to give. I really don't see anything wrong with asking people to vote for a photo. If they want to they will, if not than they won't. Who cares.
As for the photo - it's probably one of the best on this site. Great Work.
