Photographer's Note

A summer has come! It's getting hotter and hotter in Japan now. And there are many ladies with parasols on the streets in this season.

Summers in Japan are very hot and humid. Even the people from South East Asian countries (such as Indonesia, Malaysia) sometimes say that it is unbearably hot in Japan -- especially, in Kyoto.

It seems that Kyoto's hot summers are not due to only the global warming in recent centuries. As early as the 14th century, a literary monk Yoshida Kenko said about hot summers in Kyoto in his essay "Tsuredsure-Gusa" that "Houses should be designed on the basis of livability in summer. In winter, you will be able to live in any house. But it is unbearable to live in poorly-planned house in the hot season."

Anyway, I feel that summers in Japan are getting hotter and hotter in recent decades.

Does the G8 sumit declaration have any effect?
