Photographer's Note

The Marble Peak base camp (3600 m).

The Marble Peak is in the background, on the left of the picture.

Located in Kazakhstan, in the Tian Shan range, the Marble Peak is a 6400 meters high summit. The other well known summit in the region is the famous Khan Tengri (about 7000 m).

The Tien Shan range is a far east region of Kazakhstan, not far from Almaty, the former capital of the country.

The chinese border is very close, somewhere out of the picture, just on the left.

The weather may be erratic in this region, windy and cold, it's the main difficulty of the ascent.

The Marble Peak is also called Marble Wall, due to the wall that you can see on the right of the highest point, above the helico cockpit. It's 600 meters high and very steep (but it's not the main way to the summit ...)
