‘Pak Beng - Sunset over the Mekong’

So far I haven’t shown sunrises or sunsets very often.
In Laos many places are situated on the Mekong that crosses the country from north to south.
Nearly all of these places offered the opportunity to see sunsets, usually across the river. That other side of the river could also be Laos or sometimes Thailand.

I promise you I will not show all these sunsets. Many aren’t particularly good.
But the location of so many places on a large river had not only something charming but also exciting.

The Mekong got wider and wider as I travelled further south.
In Pak Beng, the Mekong is still relatively narrow (and both sides of the river are Laotian territory).

As mentioned in my previous note and Malgo wrote it also with her photo about her boat trip, Pak Beng is actually a small place. But many travelers spend one night there.
As a result, there are many hotels and hostels, mostly in the budget category. Also several restaurants.

At my previous destination (Oudomxai) I had already booked a hotel room in Pak Beng. I was very curious because the booking site said that for 12 euros I would have a very comfortable, clean large single room with ensuite bathroom.
It was no exaggeration. I stayed in a very good room that was about the largest of my entire journey through Laos. In addition, through my window I had a great view of the Mekong.
This is something that you occasionally experience while travelling. You spend the night in a place where you only want to be one night and you’re lucky enough to stay in a good hotel in a beautiful, comfortable room.
On the other hand, there are places where there’s a lot to do and where you wish to stay several nights. There you fail to get such a good deal and you stay in a room somewhere in a cold and dark basement, or with a view of a dump, and where the facilities are very minimal … Lamentation of a traveller … :)
