‘Pak Nam Noy - Meeting with the Akha Pala’

The Akha are a hill tribe that historically lived in Yunnan and Guangzhou (southern China).
Due to migrations, they also ended up in the northern parts of Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
One reason for their different migrations was fleeing war and oppression (in different countries).

The Akha have many sub divisions.
In the small town of Pak Nam Noy (in the province of Oudomxay, northern Laos) you can meet the Akha Pala.

This group lives in remote mountainous areas but goes to the market of Pak Nam Noy to buy.
Also to sell their colourful garments to foreign tourists. However, there were only two tourists in Pak Nam Noy that day …
Luckily the other tourist was a French woman who showed some interest in the colourful products. That ‘s how I got some opportunities to take pictures.

However, it had to go very quickly. These Akha Pala didn't really want to be photographed.
A foreign man and a foreign woman at the same time in town had to mean that they belonged together.
That was the only reason why I was able to take a few photos quickly.
