Cheek to Cheek, a photo from Sabah, East

Photographer's Note

Two zebras at a local zoo facing cheek to cheek, almost as if trying to lock on to each other's eyes as lovers do.

I am attracted to the pattern of the zebra's stripes and how the patterns from the two zebras mixed and match with each other.

Used PS to fill in more light.

I've been reading about what's the one-third rule of photography and try to apply it here. I wonder if I succeeded?

Zebra's pattern have always been attractive...
You made an excellent job here catching two zebras and their pattern mixed each other.
I like the way you placed their head at left side the photo.
I think, the naturality of patterns would look very beautiful in B&W adjustment, too.

I see that you come from Sabah and also start TE account. Welcome to this community and hope that sharing photography here will help showing more places of Sabah. I have not seen a live zebra but the stripes are everything unique about them, you really look up close and confuse where is start or end. Perhaps that is where the African tribes learn to paint their faces from as warrior. Composition of animal body is based on the head and what you show here is quite fine, but there will be countless limitations for you to experiment on how best to show your subject. So shoot and pick your best view.

I checked your WS version too and I think it's a little bit better than the original.

The truth is that I like very much two versions, perhaps the one that is B/W gives a more graphic effect to the composition, I find the encuadro very effective with the heads of the zebras connected like a heart.

Hello Alvin, beautiful pattern of the zebra strips. I also thought poetically, that the love each other however was advised by a zoologist, that they rub their skin to get rid of various insects and parasites. However I still belive that the zoologist sis not have any clue about poetics. Well done, the heads well placed. Best regards, Michael
