Photographer's Note

Do you remember this photo? It is a Miri river view from the left bank, with the palafitte fishing village on the right. Today’s posting is another view of that same fishing village, this time from the river. I was on board of the oil rig supply boat arriving in Miri. As we enter the river it can be seen along the left bank the fishing village on water, a Chinese cemetery (WS1), a construction/repair shipyard (WS2) and a very busy river harbour.

Curiously, this was the first time in all my professional life, and, after more than 25 years working offshore that I travelled from an oil rig by boat. I always travelled by chopper to and from the rig. It took four hours to travel a distance of 75km, from the offshore location to the coastal town of Miri. The weather was not good at all as we had shower after shower with dark clouds and brief moments of sunshine and blue sky.
