Photographer's Note

Vegetable oil is extracted from peanuts and sesame seed by this ox powered press. The ox (Cebu) pulls the tongue and the son rides the outrigger to increase pressure on the seed that the father feeds into the mill. The oil trickles out into the collection pot which is on the ground.

If you visit Bagan rent a bike or take a pony cart along the southern road that goes through the Minnanthu temple area. Watch for a small bamboo building on the south side of the road that has a 'Cold Drink' sign. It's a very simple building with a few crude tables and dirt floor.

You will most likely be offered an opportunity to visit the village. The gentleman in this picture has created something of a 'folk museum' inside the village. You will have the opportunity to see many different jobs (weaving, winnowing, woodworking, distilling, etc.) done in the old ways.

Nothing is asked in the way of payment but there is an opportunity to buy some small items at the last stop, this man's house.
