Photographer's Note

You’d never guess that this small landlocked country, sandwiched between India and China could contain people so diverse, a mosaic of ethnic groups and a meeting place of Indo-Aryan peoples from the Indian subcontinent as well as the Mongoloid people of the Himalaya regions.

Tamangs are one of these indigenous ethnic groups who are mostly farmers, although some work as porters and craftsmen, they are often seen in the streets of Kathmandu carrying large 'doko' or baskets by headstraps supported on their foreheads.

A close up picture of Tamang farmer I met having a tea break at a small teashop on the Himalayan foothills, near Lamadida Village, Nagarkot.
