Photographer's Note
All through the populated mountain areas of the Himalaya and especially in the Sherpa homeland of the Khumbu there are thousands of ancient and not so ancient mani stones with inscriptions of Buddhist prayers and mantras carved into them.
This last trip was my 4th to the Khumbu in 6 years and the local Buddhist monks had been very busy painting the plethora of mani stones and walls all over the area. There were very few that hadn't been given a vibrant lick of paint and everywhere there was spectacular art that was a feast for the eyes.
This mani stone was next to the trail to Thame above Namche. Here there were literally hundreds of mani stones, the place was alive with colour.
