Photographer's Note

As I mentioned in the note to my last post in spite of the the earthquake damage the worship still went on around the Bodthnath stupa as if nothing had happened.

The best time to visit is the day of the full moon when prayer flags go up and little yak butter lamps shine everywhere. I never managed to match my visit exactly with the festivities. Maybe next time…

But in 2016 I was glad I had an occasion to watch the preparations to the festival which was to take place the following day. Here you can see a man hanging garlands of marigold flowers on a steep roof. I can assure you that no modern safety equipment was used to spoil his efforts…

Please have a look at the images in WS too. I found it difficult to choose which of the three photos should be the main upload. I eventually went for this one because of the large graphic splashes of colour.
