Photographer's Note

Resting on a hillock 3 km west of Kathmandu, Swayambunath is one of the holiest Buddhist stupas in Nepal. Swayambu literally means "self-existent one". Believed to date back to 460 A.D, it was built by King Manadeva and by the 13 th century, it had become an important center of Buddhism. The base of the hill visible in this picture is almost entirely surrounded by sculptures and deities. Exceedingly steep stone steps that lead up to the shrine are quite a challenge. These days i m going to post some photos of average but acceptable quality. Ten years ago i took them with a small pocket camera in 640x480 format. I then resized them to 1024x768 format without saving copies of the originals.
