Photographer's Note
Everyone visits all the homes of their friends and neighbors to receive a tika of colored rice on their forehead, and new sprouts of rice in their hair or behind their ears, during Dasain. Buffalo milk, snacks, goat meat, and home made rockshi (a strong local drink) are offered guests. It is such a joyous time, everyone tries to make it back to their village to celebrate.

This is a wonderful poirtrat Gloria! Very informative as well, it tells something about her clothes, the background reveals the nature of her current surrounding, the coloured rice, even the tiny whole in her nose on the right... Interesting details, and thanks for your note.
A great capture of this young girl's expression, very well done!

Great portrait. Image well balanced. Lightning from below adds a nice reflection on her face. Perhaps, in order to make my critique constructive, you can remove the reflection on her eyes, but this is a matter of choice. Really a great capture.

Excellent shot! There's a little bit more detail in some of the highlight areas that you could make a little more visible with Curves, but it's very minor. Otherwise spot on! Your note is very informative too, well captured :-D

Gloria, this is great, really really great. A wonderful expression on her face, I like the reflection in her eyes, and your light is so warm and soft. Rearlly a great shot, Steve McCurry would be proud.

This is a very good portrait, great angle, great light direction. The bamboo and hand position work very nicely to fill the frame.
I'm going to be very picky. As Adrian suggests pull some more detail/color from her top. (Try the burn tool.)
Zoom in very, very tight on her eyes until they're the size of a rupee and use the clone tool to eliminate the reflections in her eyes (not the bright spots from her pupils, but the light areas of the iris that reduce the strength of her gaze.
It would be nice if the rice grains were sharper. Maybe someone else can help here.

This is a supurb photo - the lighting so soft and giving such modelling to the figure, the girl so shy and expressive, and the subject (the subject is the festival, not the child - that's the qway to do it!) so well caught. Bravo Glo!

Wonderful close-up! The light bouncing off her blue dress washes out some details, but the excellent capture of her expression is really what makes the picture work for me. This is very nice and intimate.

Such a great expression in her look! And the lighting here is wonderful, making the soft focus on her face so tender... Really great work Gloria, I admire it!

Such a beautiful portrait, Gloria. Her look is so compelling. I could not resist a workshop, mainly because I feel that a square format would be particularly appropriate but also because it is interesting to see the effect of reducing the reflections in her eyes.

Beautiful face, well-captured. I might crop some off the bottom, but a minor nit. Lovely! Those eyes!!

A fantastic photo Gloria, I've just discovered it, what a pleasure. There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said to compliment your achievement but, in sympathy with Bob Trips suggestion, I have done a workshop with full details of how it was done. The result may be interesting for those who cannot decide about the reflections in her eyes.

Hello Gloria,
I haven't read all critiques, I imagine there are similar ones.. What I like very very much in this picture is the light which is coming from below. It gives a beautiful atmosphere to the pastel overall.
Good shot - Izzet Keribar

A beautiful portrait Gloria. This is sharp but soft as well - not sure how to explain it - and I love the pastel/luminous colours of the dress and rice. I would have perhaps cropped a little more off the bottom to get rid of the over-exposed area of the dress in bottom right. Cheers . . . David

The colors in this shot are beautiful. It is a wonderful portrait. I like the way the child is looking up at you -- as though she is waiting for more tika?
