monk during fire puja, a photo from Bagmati, Central

Photographer's Note

This pîcture was taken during the last ceremony of Loshar, the tibetan new year. The ceremony (fire puja) revolves around fire and 4 colors (black, white, blue and yellow). Four of the monks (of the higher of the hierarchy) had most beautiful dressing. This picture is one of them. It was shot in the monastery of Shechen, near the bodnath stupa in Kathmandu. The next, most of the monks would be leaving, returning to their home for several weeks of vacation and/or working in the fields.
Unfortunatel, the ceremony was taking place in the morning, under a very harsh light, not well adapted to pictures.

Hi Michel,
Beautiful shot! I like his position, and him looking down. Also the background colors nicely match the whole composition. I just wish i could see more of his interesting hat.

michel un grand Bravo pour ce portrait! décidemment ce soir, TRom et toi faites tres fort! vos deux portraits sont ŕ la fois tres différents et tellement beaux et parfaits! c'est un régal! j'aime la façon dont il est positionné dans le cadre et ce fond si doux.. et que de couleurs!

A big bravo for this incredible shot! Indeed it looks like it was a bright, sharp sunlight, but you took a very lovely, clear, beautiful portrait of this monk. I thoroughly enjoy its impeccable details and the shallow dof. Wonderful work

Superbe cadrage pour ce portrait d'une grande honnetete. La nature de cet homme ressort tres clairement. J'aime aussi (bien entendu) le bokeh rougatre au fond.

Still, youve managed to get a picture with a very good exposure. Except for the red object in the hat which could be less bright (reducing the highlights it could be easily done), the softness of the light is great. Framing, colors and DOF all is excellent.

Beautiful portrait Michel, even if its a harsh light as you say, i love the colours here..Red background is plain and gorgeous in my opinion..
