Photographer's Note

The stupa (Buddhist shrine) of Buddhanath is one of the oldest and largest in the world. Buddhanath is located 8km out of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal and is home to a huge community of tibetan refugees. Their prayers are printed on a light piece of cloth, attached in line along a string for the wind to read them and send them to heaven.

The huge stupa is surrounded by dozens of monasteries, like the one shown on the background of this image.
At the time I took this picture, monks' chanting filled-in the air as the sun set by the nearby Himalayas - also on the far background of the picture - and while prayer flags gently swang into the wind ...

I wish you also enjoy this still image of Buddhanath, one of the most peaceful and enlighting places on earth.
