Photographer's Note

I leave Nepal but remain in the autumn of 1972. When I scanned ny old photos from Nepal, which I have been posting for the last several weeks, I also digitalized a handful of Agfacolor slides that I had stored in the same box, photos taken during the weeks before I reached Nepal.

This is from the old part of the large city of Lahore in northeastern Pakistan, close to the border with India. The old district is a maze of narrow alleys with local markets and small mosques. I remember it as one of the most chaotic areas I had so far seen and I was a bit nervous about taking photos. I felt that my camera would not be appreciated by some people, but maybe that was mainly due to my own lack of experience. I was quite young and Pakistan was very different from anything I had seen before.

I have no idea why wool was handled like this in the street, but this is among the few photos from such a long time ago that I actually remember taking. You can see a larger version here.
