I really wanted to focus on her eyes because they were big and glittering so I did most of the post-processing in the eye.
I selected the eye first using marquee, then used shadow/highlight, little tweaking using curves and appliad USM to the whole picture. I tried applying blur on the background but got problems because of her hair. It's hard for it not to be selected when you blur the background. That's why I maintained it without the blur. Maybe someone can do a workshop and teach me how, I'll appreciate it.

You don't need the blurs the background IMO ... the eye of the "model" makes the picture

A wonderful portrait, it reminds me of one of Manny's famous portraits. I guess it would have been easier to blur the background when you took the photo, with a small aperture, than afterwards in PS.

great disappoinyment after seeing your "shy" shot.

Ok, To me this is fakery, not in terms of moral dishonesty of course, but really against what you shot. You artificialize your image, make it generic, and therefore kill all veracity, naturalness about it. I know people are very impressed by this kind of image, (I too as a "wow!" reflex on such images previously) because they see skills, but truly for me, these skills are those of advertisers, and cheap/easy trivializing imagery (your over-added title, unfitting to the mood, is proof of that tendency) . they made a few rich, no doubt, and after all it is a matter of choice. To me, this is akin to poster commercialism (images made to easily please and sell), and photography is something entirely different.

This is a good picture. Herve's comment on it's "commercialized" tendency is entirely his own. A lot of National Gegraphic pictures are in a way "commercialized". If that is what will get me to be in the cover of a prestigious magazine, so be it.:)
