KADASHI CHURCH, a photo from Moscow, Center

Photographer's Note

I had visited Tretyakov Gallery and the rain had stopped for while and I had few time to walk around that part of the city before the evening.
Here we can see the Church of Resurrection of Christ in Kadash, first time mentioned in 1493, when it was part of a village in the other side of Moscow River. In 1656 it was built in stone but in 1687 a new building was created as we can see today in Moscow Baroque Style. In 1812 the church was looted by Napoleon troops who transformed it is a stable and put fire on it. It was restored and was closed in 1934 by the Soviet government, being transformed in an archive of KGB, in a club and a sausage plant. In 1992 it became a church again.

Eu tinha visitado a Galeria Tretyakov e como a chuva havia cessado decidi conhecer aquela parte da cidade antes que anoitecesse de vez.
Vemos aqui a Igreja da Ressurreiçăo de Cristo em Kadashi, primeiramente mencionada em 1493, quando era parte de uma vila do outro lado do rio Moscou. Em 1656 ergueram a primeira igreja de pedra e em 1687 reconstruíram a igreja em estilo barroco de Moscou, que é como a vemos agora. Em 1812 as tropas de Napoleăo a saquearam, usaram como estábulo e a incendiaram, ela foi restaurada e anos depois, em 1934, foi fechada pelo regime soviético que a usou como arquivo da KGB, como um clube e como uma fábrica de salsichas. Em 1992 ela foi devolvida ŕ igreja ortodoxa.

Hello Jorge,
A fine composition of the two sections of the church. The styles are slightly different but the red and white details dominate them both, and the tall tower to the right also has a golden dome at the top. The photo has nice colours and clarity in spite of the dark sky.

Jorge, we can recognize the typical Orthodox architetural style with turrets surmonted by the golden domes and the special cross. The bell tower on the right has splendid ornaments. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

The trees are giving a touch of nature to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the Kadashi church. The cloudy sky does not hurt the colors output. Have a nice day.

Hello Jorge, It is somewhere near Tretyakovskaya but I went another way and I do not remember this church with the bell tower in the Naryshkin style. But there are so many churches in Moscow, impossible to see even half of them. Again typical set of the five golden domes. Nice composition but pity for the weather, but you could do nothing.
Have a nice eventful Sunday, but take care, stay safe. In Poland more than 500 deaths in a day.

Hello Jorge,

There are lots of religious buildings in and around Moscow and, from your notes, I have begun to expect that they have suffered lapses in their purpose, being used for a whole range of inappropriate activities. It is quite amazing that they are still standing at all, never mind looking as good as they do in your photographs!
These golden domes look superb, bright and shiny even against a dull sky.

Hi Jorge,
fantastic view, I like when you manage to combine two types of towers in one frame.
The decorations are so rich and evreything well restored.
The only think missing here for me is the sunshine. I think these colors would be so bright and vivid in the direct sunlight... but of course you cannot have everything.
