Photographer's Note

Church of Elijah, the Prophet, celebrates the victory of the prince Yaroslav, the Wisdom, against a bear in the edges of the Volga River. You will see this bear some days ahead.
Many years after (1647-50) two churches of timber located in this area were dismantled and they built this church. Its interior was painted by artists from Kostroma and Yaroslavl in 1680.
In 1778 the government decided to create a new urban system in the city, the old Kremlin was destroyed and this church was choose as a central part of the project.
During soviet government the place was transformed in a museum but in 1930 it was menaced by demolition and after some protests it became a museum of Atheism. In 1989 it became a church again.
Behind the church there is that long park in the edges of Volga river.

A Igreja de Elias, o Profeta, celebra a vitória do príncipe Yaroslav, o Sábio, contra um urso nas margens do Volga, vocęs verăo esse urso daqui alguns dias.
Muitos anos depois, entre 1647-50, demoliram duas igrejas de madeira e ergueram essa igreja no lugar. Em 1680 o interior dela foi pintado com murais com o trabalho de artistas de Kostroma e Yaroslav.
Em 1778 demoliram o velho Kremlin da cidade e decidiram recriar o plano urbano da cidade, traçando ruas tendo essa igreja como referęncia.
Em 1920 a igreja virou museu e o governo soviético tinha planos de demolí-la, mas por conta de protestos acabou transformando-a em museu do ateísmo. Em 1989 o prédio voltou a ser uma igreja.
Atrás da igreja está aquele parque longo que fica nas margens do rio Volga.

Hello Jorge,
It's an attractive church with the two differently designed towers on the sides and the several green domes in the middle. The entrance is beautifully decorated. Sharpness and exposure are fine and the weather was not as bad as in many earlier photos.

Hello Jorge,

Wow, you took a lot of photographs, particularly of churches, during your Russian tour!
This is a really beautiful building!
It isn't symmetrical and yet it has a very pleasing appearance, with the two slightly different towers defining the outer limits and the five domed tower behind.
It is a neat, sharp photograph.

A very beautiful church with a completely different tower on the left and right.
Beautiful dark domes with a shiny cross on top each time.
We also catch a glimpse of the buildings at the back left.

Quem diria que dentro desta igreja de aspecto modesto se podem encontrar pinturas tăo maravilhosas. Bela composiçăo. Adoráveis cúpulas verdes e torres em forma de barraca, típicas da arquitetura russa.

Muy bonito este templo dedicado al Profeta Elias, me gustan las dos torres de los extremos tan diferentes y el conjunto de torrecillas en su nucleo central, curiosos los remates en ese color tan oscuro.
