Photographer's Note

How do you see graffitti? Is it art or is it vandalism? Looking at these guys, would you say they are creating or destroying? Enriching the urban fabric or tearing its aesthetics apart with their spraypaint?

I watched them do this for several minutes, admiring how much attention they paid to the smalles details.

It was a street exhibition in Hyehwa, a very popular area in Seoul among young people. Full of musicians, comedians, street performers, dancers etc.

Beautiful and exotic departure from your recent "traditional" series, Rafal. It's great to see you branching out in this. The RED of the crouching artist against the BLACK of the guy standing work perfectly with the YELLOW background. Very successful shot! Francis

Fajnie rozmieściłeś gości w kadrze.
Chyba umówiłeś się z tym w czerwonej koszulce, żeby ją założył - ładnie rozjaśnia zdjęcie i wprowadza ożywienie do fotki.

Artists in full work, I find that it is very well centred and consisted. A standing, the other one knelt down and then their works are to be shown everywhere.

Answer on you question, yes and no! Graffitti on the just place and with the just means than I find this lovely, perhaps its these two man well artists! I find the man the leftside most beautiful work!

dobrze złapane, u nas takie efekty "pracy" jeszcze często spotykane, niestety, często na nowych elewacjach. Dobra ostrość i kolory, nie będę powtarzał po przedmówcach.

Well most of the time it's vandalism... but not always. There are some real (unknown) artists around. Such as the ones here. Original shot of an artist displaying the creativity of the artists. Very good.

don't think Grafitti is vandalism, but don't like it... hehehe I prefer the buildings and walls in their original way. But your picture is very good! Regards!

Very nicely composed with the perfect yellow colored background the standing and the sitting man who pulls all the attention by his red contrasting shirt even the paint on the side is a good detail. Excellent.

Yes, wonderful pciture.The relationship between the graffiti and the firguers is exciting. The composition, devided into two parts, whit two matching figures one up and one down, works very well. Regards Kevin

I think it all depends where graffitti is located: it can either be art or vandalism... Here it seems like it's art as these guys seem to be on a dedicated surface rather than on someone's private property!

Hi Rafal, A very nice photo with great details. from this clearly shot picture, we can tell the layers behind the yellow background, which is a graffiti looking. The drawing on the top is fine piece of art. It is a funny to judge it.

This is nice. Looking at your portfolio I must say that this one is the best of your images that you have uploaded so far. The compo is simple yet fits nicely into the subject matter displayed here. I like how both of your characters wear the same shirts, but in different colors. The yellow wall makes the shot IMO and is the centerpiece here. Excellent work!

Spotless shot, composition and colorwise... I was a bit scared at a point, I thought the painted face with a moustache was Hitler...(though I can't really figure who is painted actually)

Hi Rafal,
I came across this photo by looking at the best pictures for the book. What an amazing composition. The photo is divided into two parts, each which could be independant of the other. Its a great idea to have certain walls designated for this use so that they dont go around spraypainting private walls.
