Photographer's Note
pung gyong is a chinese word which means wind chimes. korea uses the word as it's one of the many throwbacks to using the chinese language before korea developed its own language.
in buddhist temples, wind chimes are everywhere. they're used to help the monks concentrate on their prayers and tasks.
it's an old tradition for senior monks to hit monks while they pray. they use big long sticks and hit monks that they suspect are sleepy or not concentrating on their prayers.
the wind chimes serve the same, but more natural purpose. if a monk's mind wanders while they are working or praying, the wind chimes are a reminder to help them focus their concentration back to their task.
note: aside from a little unsharpen mask and frame, this photo is digitally untouched.
