Photographer's Note

On the border between South Korea and North Korea is the DMZ *Demilitarized Zone* ... ironically, it's also the most heavily populated military area in the world with more than 1 million soldiers patrolling its borders.

On the east coast of South Korea in a town called Goseong, there is a small observatory where you can see into North Korea.

But the highlight is the enormous stone Buddha statue located just outside the observatory. I have no idea why it was built there, except as a symbol of peace perhaps, but it's huge and impressively rises into the sky.

I was lucky that I went to the observatory on a beautiful, clear day. I got this shot of the Buddha and it has become one of my favourite photos, because it brings me enormous tranquility. You see, I'm Buddhist.

It's a combination of my two favourite subjects, Buddhist statues and the sky. It appeals to my minimalist style. It also makes a brilliant desktop wallpaper! ;)
