A good documentary photograph. Strange how the foreground net makes a human body on the ground. Let's hope these guys were OK.

I have strange feelings today about my own photos in India or Sri Lanka. I saw pictures at the newspapers here in Spain: Place where I went once and now has disappeared. Sad idea but your photo has help me a little. Life always find a way throught disaster.

Yes a great way to remember these unfortunate people.
I would like to say a bit about the photo. I think I would crop it to a vertical format, as I think that your intention was to get the men as a leading line into or out of the frame, otherwise you would have walked a few paces to the left and taken a wider photo, showing all the men clearly.
Just my ideas, Josh. We are all in shock from this world disaster, and must think ourselves lucky that we can still post here to TE.

I never payed too much attention for photos from Sri LAnka, before, and it makes me feel so sad that I do it on the first time under this sad circumstances. It's a beautiful shot, and b/w is a very good chice for it. Wel done, and thanks for posting, Josh.

This is a very timely offering Josh. Thank you for sharing it with us. Your photo motivated me to create a theme that I call "Tsunami Memorial" where we can collect photos that touch us and speak of this part of the world. I hope you don't mind that I've added this image to the theme. It is the first...
With regard to the image, despite the brilliant light coming from the horizon, you are able to capture details of what is happening on the beach. There is nothing dramatic about this image, though with our knowledge of the tragedy being played out at the moment, it becomes haunting. Well seen.

Hi Josh!
good you posted this pic. we share the grief with you all.
My country, India, has suffered over a large geographical extent. the entire south and south-east coastal region, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands lying close to Sumatra have been worst hit. The Andamans, being populated by indigenous tribes in certain islands are at the fear of becoming extinct. Certain islands have not yet been traced out, reports say!

My thoughts go out to all those people who have been affected by the tsunami that has caused so much devastation across South East Asia.
This is a fine tribute to Tsunami Memorial

Good pic and agree and sharing the with previous comments. Congrats. Some critics about the photo: I think you could have improve it, moving your cam to the left, and to the down, to get a better perspective, to get the entire net, and less space by the right. Too much centered, IMHO.

Black and white says so much more than colour in shots like this one. It's difficult to treat this picture apart from the memory of what it is commerating. Knowing what we know now gives it almost sacred overtones, all of the figures taking part in a cermonial act of recovery from the sea. Peace to their memories.
