Another photo from Khorog City Park you've already seen in my last post.

In Tajikistan, I was fascinated with schoolgirls' uniforms. They all wear Tajikistan-flag-coloured scarves and these amazing pompoms at the end of their plaits. I tried to take a few photos, at least some record shots from the hip, to then show them at home. But these two girls approached me for photos and conversation. I first thought they wanted to practise their English but as soon as they found out I spoke Russian, the one on the left exclaimed: "Oh, why didn't you tell us from the very start!". They seemingly loved to just talk to a foreigner, showered me with questions about my country, my family and travels. Most answers I gave met with great enthusiasm but they were disappointed to hear that I had never been to the USA.

Same age, same uniforms but I'm sure you can see two different characters, like in this photo by Gert. What will they be like when they grow up?

Hello Kasia,
They are nice girls, but I wonder if they would have had the courage to approach me. Women travellers do have an advantage in many countries. The style of their school uniforms and hair seem to be reminders of Soviet traditions. As with the WS photos I see similarities with Afghanistan but even more differences. Thank you for the link, but the difference of photo quality becomes painfully obvious. ;-)

These two young ladies certainly look curious and are also capable of engaging a stranger for a conversation.

Great double portrait! The girls have playful smiles on their faces, and it's very interesting to see their school uniforms. I also like the portrait of the boys, with all of them hunching down in the same way.

Hi Kasia,in addition to photos, it's always nice to read your notes of your experiences in contact with people. So here they study English, but only the boys wanted to try talking to you in this language. The school uniforms are really beautiful and remind us a little of the Italian ones at the time of Mussolini, plus even the colors of the flag are the same. Fajne zdjecia ty h sympatyczych uczennic w ladnych mundurkach. jakos.w.mojej podrozy obecnej nie zauwazylam uczniow. Rozmawialam z wieloma.osobami mam duzo zdjec z takich spotkan. Para arabska zaprosila mnie nawet do domu na lunch ale mam klopot z telefonem. Wczoraj z kolei trojka turystow z Almaty zaprosila mnie na kola je I spedzilam mily wieczor.
Jutro juz wylatuje domu.

Very cute.
the girl on the left has a more 'standard' look with round features, whereas the girl on the right has more prominent features with stronger lines :) I guess Russian is a language that's spoken in many countries other than the obvious. many foreign countries have the same strange fascination with the USA, its weird haha. great post for you Cheers

the uniforms looks similar with those of the girls when I was a little boy, but these adornments are very bizarre and in fact call our attention. funny the faces speaking with the camera. excellent image.
