Photographer's Note

The old quarter is the place to be in Hanoi, get fascinated by the hustling and bustling in every corner of the hectic place and the best way to get the feel of it, is to walk and have some contact with the people. There are many surprises waiting to be explored and this was the place I ended up on my photo walk about.

How about register to be a member of commie party for free!

A shot showing a make-shift office - just a small table by the road side in the Old Quarter, managed probably by the party cadre. It was very obvious why I was so much attracted to this. Though Vietnam welcomes visitors, it is a decidedly communist country and one should keep this in mind when dealing with officials. There is a lot of red tape in getting even simple things accomplished, such as securing a visa. Though one does not feel entirely restricted, there is a prevailing feeling of being under some kind of control

You are always being over shadowed by that overwhelming and sickening sickle & hammer ......
the symbol of depression and oppression which suits the cover of a cold war espionage novel.....

Happy viewing
