Photographer's Note

We arrived at Lao Cai train station from Hanoi at 0730 and took a 90min ride on mini bus to the town of Sapa. The day was on a Sunday. One of the attractions in Sapa is the Sunday Market and this market attracts the various tribes around the area including of course camera trotting tourists like myself.

One of the more common tribes one can see around Sapa is from the H'mong tribes. They come to sapa to buy stuff from the market and also to peddle their wares to tourists. These group of teenages from the Flower H'mong tribes was taking a rest just outside our hotel enjoying a snack. They were pretty much indifferent to the camera as most probably they were used to tourists like me taking their photos. Their tribal wear are one of the main interests and actually one can tell which tribes are they from by looking at the way they dress.

One of the many 'must haves' when you want to photograph children I have learned is that you have some sweets or chocolates with you handy. By offering them sweets they tend to be more comfortable with you especially when you have a camera pointing at them.

It was misty around Sapa at this time and with a slight drizzle as well.
