Slaty-tailed trogon, a photo from Limon, East

Photographer's Note

Costa Rica has a huge number of bird species for its area. About 600 species are resident, with most of the other regular visitors being winter migrants from North America.

This is slaty-tailed trogon. It breeds in lowlands from southeastern Mexico south through Central America, to Colombia. It is a resident of the canopy and higher levels of damp tropical forests, but comes lower in adjacent semi-open areas. Slaty-tailed trogons feed on insects and fruit.

Hi Kari,it's a paradise for bird-watchers but for the "normal" tourists too. So it's nice to meet beautiful species like that,and the quality of pic is excellent despite the difficult light and location,i like it! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

This is not the kind of photo I would ever try to take, but I would really have loved to take one like this anyway. The bird is fantastic, and it's seated so nicely, showing you its best side and nothing to disturb the view. You even had time to get the camera settings just right. Love it.

beautiful looking bird, never seen or heard of its kind before, so I've learned something new today :) The end result is excellent. Birds are often hard to capture clearly, even when perched like this bc they move so quickly. fine colors and blurring of the bg to make it all work

What a colourful bird!
It's so typical of the colours of South American birds, they are quite spectacular!
You have obtained a particularly sharp, close-up of this bird! WE can clearly see the colours of its plumage and the catch light in its eye.
It appears to be listening, its head leaning to one side.

What a fine example of shallow dof.

This is a very beautiful bird with a colourful feather gestation.
Nicely taken from below so that we can see the red plumes.
Excellent sharpness and composition with some branches below and behind the bird.
I often heard that Costa Rica is a paradise for nature lovers.
