Photographer's Note
Gatun Lake is a large artificial lake situated in the Republic of Panama; it forms a major part of the Panama Canal, carrying ships for 33 km (21 mi) of their transit across the Isthmus of Panama.
The lake was created between 1907 and 1913 by the building of the Gatun Dam across the Chagres River. At the time it was created, Gatun Lake was the largest man-made lake in the world, and the dam was the largest dam on earth.
The damming of the river flooded the originally wooded valley; almost a century later, the stumps of old mahogany trees can still be seen rising from the water, and submerged snags form a hazard for any small vessels that wander off the marked channels.
Gatun Lake has an area of 425 km2 (164 sq mi) at its normal level of 26 m (85 ft) above sea level; it stores 5.2 cubic kilometres (183,000,000,000 ftł) of water, which is about as much as the Chagres River brings down in an average year.
I found the color of the water changed significantly from what I saw while going through the locks. Hope this is not too technical.

Hello Roger,
The colour of the lake reminds me at the colour of a large river that - after heavy rainfall - carries a lot of mud. But the reflection of the sky also colours the water partly blue.
The photo was of course taken in a tropical country and that's the image we see with the heavily forested shores.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Roger.
A very pretty picture, is surprising for this lake water color, color green, wooded banks such a delight and an image with a good depth of components, which give us the boats in a row, they will see in the distance the sky with beautiful clouds, also contributes to a good complement to the image.
Enjoy the weekend.
Best regards.
Luis.

Hi Roger,
The wideness of the lake is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the tug boats and of the forest. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.
