The Golden Palace, a photo from Vienna, East

Photographer's Note

Austria's Schloss Schonbrunn, located outside downtown Vienna, was the Austrian Versailles - the summer residence of Austria's royal family from the 16th to the 20 century. Surrounded by hills and beautiful gardens, it is among Austria's most popular tourist destinations.

We visited Schloss Schonbrunn on a mild February day; the grounds were reasonably clear of people and the palace tour was quick and informative. We then spent several hours touring the zoo and grounds, only tearing ourselves away around twilight. As we were leaving, I snapped this shot of the palace lit by floodlights against a darkening sky.

The photo has been straightened, cropped and color corrected.

I had few time when I visited this place and I was with 4 fresh stitches in my head after an accident. haha.
very nice this nocturn view, the contrast of the golden façade with the dark sky created a marvelous mood. TFS.

Too bad that a bird or a plane did not decide to fill the upper left corner at this moment ;)

Hey Andrew,

I love the gardens of this palace, and the front facade as you've presented here is quite impressive also! I generally don't care for the red tones in most night shots, but this one works perfectly against the blue sky and the near white from the lamp light. The tri-color effect caught my eye from the thumbnail and didn't disappoint when enlarged. Well done!
