Following on from Rob's prior post from Seattle / Chicago in the same genre, here is 'Awilda' also by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. This one is located in Salzburg, Austria. Not much I could do about the cloudy overcast skies but the diffused light works well.

Hello Chris,
This head is quite beautiful. I like its design, but also the fine soft patterns of the stone and the way it has been assembled of many layers. This one has a more expected, and maybe more "natural" location than the one in Rob's photo. The mild colours of the architecture and the ground go well with the statue.

Hello Chris, Indeed, very similar to the sculpture from Rob's photo. I do not remember it from Salzburg, maybe it is temporary there. interesting composition, the sculpture is so big compared to other objects. Nice also the sculpture in the gate.

Hello Chris,
After the sculptures by the same artist I saw in Chicago and Seattle, it is really nice to see this Austrian version too. The two American ones are both located in a park, so its nice to see this building as background here.

Interesting to see this version of Awilda in Salzburg. The same design as in Chicago, but with a different size, different material and here divided in slices. Jaume Plensa used this theme often in many variations.

A beautiful composition, with this modern work of an artist I did not know, its large size and static face reminds me of the great sculptures of ancient Egypt, beautiful contrast with the building behind.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.

Hello Chris,
I've seen Awilda here in NYC, too, and there are other giant heads by Jaume Plensa in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. I like the setting here because of the lovely architecture, and the arched doorway with the statue inside. I think that statue is looking at Awilda and wondering who she is. :-) The bench on the bench are great for scale, too.

I would expect to see such a sculpture in shiny metal, but the artist chose marble instead. Modern art with classical material, I guess. You show it nicely.

I was really attracted to this!
The statue has such a serene face and the materials, from which it is made, give it a mystical appearance. It is almost as if it is a holograph placed in the middle of the square. The background creates the reality!
Very well photographed despite the cloudy sky!
