Hallstatt in autumn, a photo from Upper Austria, East

Photographer's Note

A common view of Hallstatt, one of Austria's most touristy villages, taken from the main parking lot above the village, with 11mm. focal length around noon. In late October the sun shines for only a few hours on the village because of the steep tall mountains to the west and south. From wikipedia:

Hallstatt (47°34′N 13°39′E), Upper Austria is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Hallstättersee (a lake). At the 2001 census it had 946 inhabitants.
Contrary to popular belief, Hall is most likely not the old Celtic name for salt (which was *saleinom, the h-anlaut from historical s- being a characteristic of the Brythonic languages but not Continental Celtic). Rather, the name is derived from Old High German, and whatever its origin, the saltmines near the village were an important factor. Salt was a valuable resource so the region was historically very wealthy.
The village also gave its name to the early Iron Age Hallstatt culture and is part of the World Heritage Site for Cultural Heritage.
Until the late 19th century, it was only possible to reach Hallstatt by boat or via narrow trails. The land between the lake and mountains was sparse, and the town itself exhausted every free patch of it. Access between houses on the river bank was by boat or over the upper path, a small corridor passing through attics. The first road to Hallstatt was only built in 1890, along the west shore, partially by detonating rock.

This is a beautiful shot of Hallstatt. I was there 3 years ago and i loved it, especially the dumplings (which i have been unable to find in the United States).

Hallo Mr. Wide ;-)
Difficult to unscrew this lens when it is mounted, eh ? The detail that shows yours is fairly new is the focal length, after some months of usage you can't turn it beyond 10mm...
Nice view from this overlooking PoV a la captain, the village provides a strong and attractive foregrounds as well as some addl depth, I like the stillness of the lake water that benefits to the reflection and the superb background autumn colors.

I visited this place 12 years back & still can't forget the beauty...you've chosen a different POV for this, over the roofs lloking into the bordering hills beyond the lake. Wonderful colours especially the leaves in their autumn colours. Beautiful!

Hi Tan.
Without the typical architecture, this one could have been taken in a Norvegian fjord... The beauty of the village, the majestuous mountains and the lake make the place fantastic (and really nice to discover, at least on your picture). The autumn season adds some beautiful and colorful aspects in the vegetation.

Grillé...c'est la photo que j'allais poster, ŕ une petite nuance prčs...les couleurs des arbres qui étaient un peu moins belles lors de mon passage début septembre. Lumičre et exposition parfaites pour ce superbe village que j'ai beaucoup apprécié.
