The statue of Lange Wapper in front of Het Steen in Antwerp
Lange Wapper is a legend about a giant who irritates or provokes people. The story is well known in Antwerp
The legend started in the 16th century. Lange Wapper likes to live near the sea, near rivers or canals. He can make himself so big, he can move to another city with one giant leap.
Lange Wapper uses tricks to approach women to get their breast milk. He annoys drunken people, cheats while playing with children and laughs like the devil.
Looks like a normal human, but can make himself as small as a child or as big as a giant.
Lange Wapper is delighted in playing tricks and scaring people. He likes to taunt his victims, leaping over their houses and pressing his face against the windows, or bending over the roads they walk by. He once picked up a fishing boat by the mast and hurled it through the air. At night he peeps into houses to scare the women and he is lurking youngsters into sin by gambling and drinking. He has got a special dislike to drunkards.
He appears in the Suske and Wiske comic book "De Zwarte Madam" (The Black Lady).

Hi Tsilla,
Good take and perspective on our local 'hero'. Low pov is a good idea, as is the positioning of the apartment blocks in the distance. Good sharpness and colours, although the PP/brightening (?) is very visible on the face of Lange Wapper. Also a good idea to isolate the statue from its Steen setting.
Greetings from Antwerp.
Benny
