BRUGES
Bruges without people on street, corona time!
The Predikerenrei is a bridge in Bruges.
Description
The Predikerenrei separates the Augustijnen- from the Gouden Handrei and connects the Spanjaardstraat with the Hoedenmakersstraat.
The name comes from the Augustinian fathers who settled in the second half of the thirteenth century on the block between Jan Mirael, Schrijvers, Hoedenmakersstraat and Augustijnenrei. They reached the city center via the nearby Vlamingbrug. In 1294, the city's Augustinians were given permission to build a bridge over the Rei right in front of their monastery. They must do this at their own expense and on condition that the city administration can have the bridge removed at any time if circumstances require. The current bridge dates from 1391 and was built by the Bruges master mason Jan van Oudenaerde ( 1412). In 1396, Jan van Oudenaerde was charged with installing two staircases on the Augustijnenbrug that lead to the water. In 1937, the bridge was partly rebuilt and reinforced. In 1984 the bridge was again restored to a design by the Bruges Study Agency Verschave. The Augustijnenbrug is a three-part arch bridge. The parament is made of regularly cut blocks of natural stone, presumably Tournai limestone, with bluestone for the keystones of the arches and the tops. The central stones between the arches are reinforced with buttresses. At the height of the road surface there is a profiled, bluestone water frame on both sides of the parapet. The bridge has two bricks on the west side and one brick trumpet on the east side. Stone benches are made on the inside of the parapets. The road surface of the bridge is paved.
I hope you like it.

Hallo John, that bridge represents a perfect elevated viewpoint to see the surroundings. The left bank of the canal contrasts with the right one. Old red brick houses coexist with modern apartment blocks. The picture has an excellent depth as usual. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello John,
You took this photo when the Corona scare was at its highest level at the early part of the pandemic. No wonder the streets look so empty. The emptiness makes us see the streets and buildings without any disturbance. Especially the smaller white building to the left is very pretty. The trees and the houses on the other side of the canal are beautifully reflected. The colours are very good for such a grey day.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,
Een heel mooi gezicht op de stad, het spiegelende water wordt mooi aan beide zijden geflankeerd door de straten en huizen met een opvallend contrast tussen de oudere huizen links en de modernere gebouwen rechts.

Dear John,
I have to say that it is surprising to see Bruges like this. In my memories the streets were crowded with people. You couldn't drop a penny...
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hallo John,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John,
I appreciate the reflections on the water. The length of the canal is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. Have a nice day.

Hello John,
Again, a very unusual photograph from Bruges! Not a person in sight!
However, you were given an unusual opportunity to take photographs which will remain almost unique, in your archives.
You have chosen an excellent viewpoint, where the canal acts as a guide, encouraging us to move along, viewing its eclectic reflections and the buildings, either side, which are contributing to the picture.
Despite a grey sky, the details are sharply collected and the colours are bright enough.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

A high quality photo of a canal in Bruges, I like the small house on the left and I think houses on the right are newer, an elegant photo with beautiful reflections

Hello John,
I think that you very recently showed us a photograph taken on the same day from very close to this place and showing the bridge itself. And this is another delightful shot with the smooth water of the canal leading us off into the distance while showing us some beautiful clear reflections of the surrounding buildings and the overhanging trees.
The lines of buildings on either side of the canal are lovely but, of course, the streets are totally empty as a result of Covid-19.
Wonderful light and colours, a beautiful strong composition and excellent detail and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello my friend
My personal opinion is that this chosen
point of view must be the best
because we can see a lot of details
from Bruges without people during
covid 19
everything is unique here and the
small white building on the left
draws our attention

Hoi John,
This shot will gives us the living misery memories of the corona time when we looked back the year 2020.
As you said corona time....I think the grey sky suited this shot adds to its somberness.
Now, we should put this in the past...and look forward to a brighter future ahead.
Thanks for your little info's ( half Dutchman )and interesting notes.

Bonjour, cher ami John,

Hello John, the grey day seems to enhance the colours in this scene.
Excellent sharp quality. It is a lovely view making the most of the slight curve of the canal, and the reflections.
Interesting notes.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi John
A picturesque town scene, love the way the canal leads onto whole depth, there are lots of colourful elements to enjoy, strong on architectural detail with lots of charm about this place. Lighting is good and the overall effect is so pleasing to the eye with the shiny water reflection catches attention. Brilliant capture and well presented.
Best regards

Good afternoon John,
Even the grey "washed" sky did not spoil this beautiful sight along the canal. Yet another corner in Bruges that offers exquisite architecture of the old neighborhood.
My best regards,

Hi John.
The perspective of the beautiful canal is great, along with the street on the right and the street on the left that moves away from the canal just around the bend, very beautiful reflections on the canal.
The color and light management are magnificent.
Very well done. I like it
May you enjoy the end of Sunday.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi John,
you may have been the only person on the street. It must have been a strange feeling, as if in a dream.
Especially extraordinary in a busy place like Bruges.
Although I remember when we did the horse carriage ride that we were passing some areas without people as well, as if some spots were particularly busy with tourists, while other not at all.
Great result here in spite of the dull sky.
It adds to the mood.
Very well done,
M
