After the winter weather ten days ago, we now get very warm weather for this period in February, even two days in a row day record since 1860 start of the measurements. (+19° CELSIUS)

DAMME, pleasant bicycle trip of 30 km middle of the nice nature 12 km of the North Sea.

Reason for this Platheule creek.

To regulate drainage, the entire area was divided into communities or waterways. The residents of a watering jointly contributed to the costs of removing the water from their area. The following waterings were created: the Watering van Moerkerke, large 4700, built in Moerkerke, Damme and Sijsele; the Oude Watering van Lapscheure large 3190, built in Lapscheure; the Watering van den Broek large 1854, built in St-Kruis and Damme; the Maldegemse Polder large 1212 built in Moerkerke; Stampershoek large 665 built in St-Catherine outside Damme.
Where these waterings perched along the Zandstreek, and also where they butted together without dykes present, sideways were constructed to prevent water from another watering or from the Zandstreek from entering its own watering.

Hello John,
A fascinating view of the road and canal running side by side through the flat area. The green bank with trees is a third section, and they all make two nice curves in the distance. I also love the wide screen of trees in the background of the view. The photo is very well composed and balanced and with a pleasant light and colours.

Na het winterweekje is dit een prachtige foto van het vroege voorjaar. De compositie is mooi verdeeld tussen de vaart, de weg en de rij bomen in het midden. Allemaal in een aangenaam zonlicht.

Hello John,

What interesting notes.
The people of Belgium and the Netherlands have been particularly inventive in their determination to keep the water off their low-lying ground.
The parallel watering and road, divided by the line of trees, create an irresistible guide inwards. I like how each has tree shadows crossing them and linking us with the flat ground, to the right, backed by the boundary of poplars.

It has definitely been warmer these last few days, though we have had the rain, too!

Hallo John,
De rij bomen verdeelt het beeld in twee met een zicht op de weg links en de waterloop rechts die wat verder een kleine bocht maakt. Ook de weg maakt een bocht maar dat kunnen we niet zien.
Een beetje vreemd om in dergelijk vlak landschap het water niet rechtdoor te zien stromen.
Prachtige rimpelingen op het water rechtsonder.
De rij bomen over de ganse horizon zorgt voor een goede achtergrond.
Mooie wolkjes in de lucht.

an interesting POV using well the trunk in the FG and the row of these same trees at distante. I liked the diagonals of the canal and the road too. excellent.

Hello John, a composition that works really well, with diagonal, horizontal and vertical lines, in this scene from your trip out.
I especially like the shadows of the trees falling on the opposite bank of the canal.

The canal perspective is beautiful, the road parallel to it, and a continuous line of trees that follows the line of the road, a magnificent view with a soft sky with veiled clouds.
