The Meebrug interrupts the Meestraat and connects the Reie with the Groenerei.
The first mention of the Meebrug dates back to 1290. However, the current name is only used for the first time in 1440. This bridge, like the nearby PERENbrug, has an important connection between the city center and the adjacent suburb, so-called the "Braamberg, early on. ", because the latter was added to the city center shortly before 1246. In 1390 the original wooden bridge was replaced by a stone one, built by the famous Bruges bridge builder Jan van Oudenaerde ( 1412). The Meebrug is a simple arched bridge with a cobbled road surface. The exterior consists of regularly hewn blocks of Brabant white stone in combination with bluestone for the keystones of the arches and cover shelves. The parapets on the west side and the entire east side of the bridge are made of brick.
I hope you like it

Hello John,
I like the angle of this photo, with the street leading us on a diagonal towards the house of four gables and brick roofs, and the row of houses along the canal. The trees to the right are nicely included. I like how a young man is leaning on the railing of the bridge to the left and a young woman in a similar position to the right. It is a very nice composition with first class colours and light.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo John, that cobbled bridge is very old, it crosses a canal. The picture gives a glimpse of the local architecture. It was a sunny day of autumn. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Dear John,
I do hope that you will have the opportunity to take such great photos! I understand this is an archive photo, but until you are allowed to cycle, you have the opportunity. Why do I like this photo? because of the triangular shaped shadow pointing at the beautiful historic building. The human presence is a nice addition. I didn't have other choice, but to fave it.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi John,
This photo really jumps out out and says "Look at me!". The low point of view makes the building seem quite large, and the colours of the sky, trees and buildings are wonderful. It looks like you have treated the photo to emphasise the textures.

Hi John
There seem to be new lockdowns everywhere in Europe - it seems they were relaxed the first time much to soon. A good photo looking across the bridge towards an interesting complex of old buildings.
cheers

Dag John,

Hi John,
Low and wide angle works very well on this one. Nice old bridge with cobblestone pavement. Facade of that old building looks great. The sky is lovely too.

Hello John,
You have supplied some useful information about this bridge and area.
From your chosen aspect, you have been able to use the converging lines of the bridge to funnel viewers towards the tall buildings, each with the familiar 'stepped' appearance to its roof.
It's nice how the trees make a natural border and the family adds human interest.
We are in a similar position to you. England is going into lockdown until Dec. 2nd! Like you, walking or cycling outside, alone or members from the same house, will be permitted!
Keep smiling and keep safe, Bev :-)

Hello John,
The red tiled roofs contrast superbly with the deep blue sky to give a terrific warm cold colour contrast. Good sharpness and the flagstone street adds nice lead in lines and perspective. Tfs!

Hallo John,

Hi John
Love the viewpoint observing the rule of the thirds where my eye is focused on that beautiful building and its enormous architecture. This is so cheery with its own charm and feel of time gone by with subtle colours and light. The visitors further add more interest. Great shot

Bonjour, cher ami John,
Une composition architecturale du plus bel effet. Toujours ŕ l'affűt du beau, c'est gentil pour les membres.
Confinement oblige, pas de sortie... De plus, le ciel est bien gris et la pluie n'est pas loin.
Amitiés.

Hi John,
I like very much the blue sky here. The good weather resulted in so much color. Nice composition, I like the shade making a geometrical shape in the foreground.
We have a lockdown in England as well but it is less strict I think. But the weather is so bad I don't want to leave my house if I don't have to :)
Excellent work,

Hello John,
It's almost like a postcard scene of Bruges - a beautiful quaint little city. I could walk and walk , all day admiring all the bridges on the cobbled road surface. I would stop now and then , like the people do , finding my own place to absorb the beauty of Bruges.
I'm pleased to know that you still can do 'Bike Trip' even in the lockdown. That's what I've been doing these days.
Thanks for sharing my favourite city.

Hi John
I chose this one from your gallery page because of the brightness of it, and the brightness of the contrasting colors, its too much to pass up. I also like the sharpness of the stone, and the step rooftop in that orange color. striking light too. cheers
Craig
