Photographer's Note

From time to time a car-less Sunday is organised in Brussels. It is a feast day. The events reveals the huge amount of public space usually devoted to cars. People are retrieving the freed space with obvious happiness. An euphory runs through the city arteries. It is made of freedom and conviviality. Typical icons of the event shows amazed children playing in the middle of empty crossroads, families strolling lazily along large avenues on bicycles, rollers or toy scooters. I had the chance to stumble on the group of neighbours presented here. The way they changed the street into a bar terrace is a beautiful example of re-asserted public, convivial space. When the cars will re-claim the place everyone will go back to the isolation of his home.
